Liquid Diet Weight Loss 7 Day Plan for a Liquid Diet

Liquid diets can be a great way to kick-start a long-term weight loss diet. Most liquid diets include large amounts of water and juices that are made from natural ingredients. According to Dr. Sandra Cabot, author of the book "The Juice Fasting Bible: Discover the Power of an All-Juice Diet to Restore Good Health, Lose Weight and Increase Vitality," juice and liquid diets can help to detox your body and free your system of dangerous free radicals. Liquid also does a great job of taking up space in your stomach, leaving you feeling full and preventing overeating. With careful planning and adherence to your plan, a liquid diet can help you lose weight and improve your health.
Ingredients
The most important part of a 7-day liquid plan is to make sure you have all the ingredients youll need so you dont have to waste time restocking. Youll want to have adequate quantities of vegetables, fruits, water and any other oils or health ingredients you want to add to your diet. Small amounts of flax seed and olive oil can be great additions to smoothies and juices without ruining the flavor. The more diverse your choices of fruits and vegetables, the more powerful the mix of anti-oxidants you introduce into your body. Try fruits like berries, apples, peaches, bananas, oranges, pomegranate and kiwi. Melons are mostly water and can also be added to smoothies. Vegetables you should have include tomatoes, carrots, celery and onions.
Planning
If you have specific juices or recipes you want to try, make sure to write them down and buy the ingredients before you start your diet. You should plan on having at least three to four smoothies during the day; not including water intake. Your actual caloric amount will be based on your caloric needs and goals. According to the National Strength and Conditioning Association, drinking water throughout the day and between meals is a good way to stave off hunger until its time for your next meal or smoothie. Your daily water intake should be around eight 8 oz. glasses per day; the smoothies and juices you drink will contribute to reaching this daily recommendation.
Preparation and Considerations
Dr. Cabot recommends preparing your juices in batches to save time. Typically, one medium size blender will create one batch and provide around four to five servings -- actual serving size will be relative to your caloric intake and needs. Keep batches refrigerated and use as needed. If you have a high daily caloric requirement -- for example higher than 2,500 calories -- you might want to gradually shift from solid foods to liquids in order to prevent your body from going into starvation mode. Instead of jumping right into a liquid diet, try substituting one meal per day until every meal is a liquid meal. Once your meals are all liquid, you can try to go seven days straight on a complete liquid diet. This gives your body time to adjust to the caloric deficit and will help you lose weight more efficiently.
Sample Day
You can use an existing sample liquid diet and modify it to your taste and schedule. For example, at breakfast try having a fruit smoothie with apples, bananas, and berries. For your liquid snack you can try a glass of water with lemon juice and watermelon. For lunch you can go for a vegetable mix of carrots, tomatoes, celery and leeks. For liquid snack you can try heating up your vegetable juice to make a quick soup or make a vegetable broth. For dinner you can make a combination fruit and vegetable smoothie. Sweet vegetables like carrots and beets work the best with fruits. Adjust your juices and calories to taste.
